Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to Benzenesulfonic acid, decyl-, sodium salt (CAS RN 1322-98-1), Sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (CAS RN 25155-30-0), Sodium tridecylbenzene sulfonate (CAS RN 26248-24-8), Benzenesulfonic acid, undecyl-, sodium salt (1:1) (CAS RN 27636-75-5), Benzenesulfonic acid, mono-C10- 16-alkyl derivs., sodium salts (CAS RN 68081-81-2), Sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate (CAS RN 68411-30-3), Benzenesulfonic acid, C10-14-alkyl derivs., sodium salts (CAS RN 69669-44-9), Benzenesulfonic acid, mono-C10-14-alkyl derivs., sodium salts (CAS RN 85117-50-6), Benzenesulfonic acid, mono-C10-13-alkyl derivs., sodium salts (CAS RN 90194-45-9), and Benzenesulfonic acid, 4- C10-13-sec-alkyl derivs., sodium salts (CAS RN 127184-52-5), Benzenesulfonic acid, 4-C10-13-sec-alkyl derivs. (CAS RN 85536-14-7). Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) is the primary cleaning agent used in many laundry detergents and cleaners at concentrations up to 25% in consumer products, and at somewhat higher concentrations in industrial/commercial products. The LAS molecule contains an aromatic ring sulfonated at the para position and attached to a linear alkyl chain at any position except the terminal carbons. The linear alkyl carbon chain typically has 10 to 14 carbon atoms, with the approximate mole ratio varying somewhat regionally with weighted averages of 11.7 to 11.8. The alkyl chains are > 95% linear.

Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.

Why do you need this OEL Fastrac monograph?

OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:

  • The numerical OEL and control band assignment needed to determine the level of required engineering controls and personal protective equipment
  • A listing of all cited references utilized in the derivation of the OEL and ADE
  • An expert review and discussion with respect to the critical endpoints of concern, the rationale for the choice of endpoints, and dose that is to be used in the derivation of the ADE (PDE), as required by the EMA's Guideline on setting health-based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities
