Linezolid is an antibacterial indicated in adults and children for the treatment of the following infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria; pneumonia originated in hospital; community-acquired pneumonia; skin and skin structure infections, including diabetic foot infections, without accompanying infections in the bone; and vancomycinresistant Enterococcus faecium infections. Linezolid is an oxazolidinone-class antibacterial that binds to a site on the bacterial 23S ribosomal RNA of the 50S subunit and prevents the formation of a functional 70S initiation complex, which is essential for bacterial reproduction.
