Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to pyrilamine hydrochloride (CAS RN 6036-95-9), pyrilamine maleate (CAS RN 59-33-6), pyrilamine acetate (CAS RN 7681-24-5), and pyrilamine tannate (CAS RN 183969-60-0). Pyrilamine maleate, or mepyramine maleate, is used in the treatment of allergies, the symptomatic relief of hypersensitivity reactions, and in pruritic skin disorders. Mepyramine maleate is also a common ingredient of compound preparations for the symptomatic treatment of coughs and the common cold. It has also previously been used for short term treatment of insomnia, but was discontinued as ingredients in the over-the-counter (OTC) nighttime sleep aids were marketed in the U.S.
