Methamphetamine HCl is indicated for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obesity. Methamphetamine HCl is a sympathomimetic amine with central nervous system (CNS) stimulatory activity. The peripheral actions include elevation of systolic and diastolic blood pressures and weak bronchodilator and respiratory stimulant activity. In treating obesity, it has not been established if the action is primarily one of appetite suppression, other central nervous system actions, or if metabolic effects may be involved. The mechanism of action involved in producing behavioral changes in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is unknown.
