Methyltestosterone is a 17beta-hydroxy steroid that is testosterone bearing a methyl group at the 17alpha position. It is also known as 17alpha-methyltestosterone. Methyltestosterone is a synthetic anabolic steroid used for replacement therapy in conditions associated with testosterone deficiencies in males, such as hypogonadism. It is also used in women to treat breast cancer, breast pain, swelling due to pregnancy, and with the addition of estrogen it can treat symptoms of menopause. Methyltestosterone is classified as a Schedule III Controlled Substance by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a drug with a moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence.
