Mosapride citrate dihydrate is a prokinetic used to increase gastrointestinal motility in humans and animals and to treat irritable bowel syndrome and other gastrointestinal disorders. Although the mechanism of action is not completely understood, mosapride citrate dihydrate is a 5-HT4 agonist that stimulates the release of acetylcholine in the intestine. Acetylcholine may enhance prolonged contractions and stimulate fluid secretion in the gastro-intestinal tract promoting stool passage and gastric emptying.
