Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to neostigmine methylsulfate (CAS RN 51-60-5), neostigmine bromide (CAS RN 114-80-7), and neostigmine iodide (CAS RN 1212-37-9). Neostigmine is a cholinesterase inhibitor used in the treatment of myasthenia gravis and has been used as an alternative to edrophonium in the diagnosis of myasthenia gravis. It is used in anesthesia to reverse the neuromuscular blockade produced by competitive neuromuscular blockers. It is also used in the management of paralytic ileus. Neostigmine has been used in the management of postoperative urinary retention but has generally been superseded by catheterization. It has also been used to lower intraocular pressure in the management of glaucoma and to reduce rises in intraocular pressure associated with ophthalmic surgery, although other parasympathomimetic medications are usually used when such miotics are required.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
