Nettle leaf extract is the extract of the leaves of the nettle herb Urtica dioica L., Urtica urens L., or a mixture of the two species. Other names for nettle include common nettle, European nettle, greater nettle, and stinging nettle. It is a perennial herbaceous plant with spiny leaves, belonging to the nettle family (Urticaceae). While stinging nettle can be found almost anywhere, it is most common in Europe, North America, North Africa, and parts of Asia. It is a plant that is edible and has nutritional and medicinal properties. Nettle leaf extract is a traditional herbal medicinal (based upon long-standing use) product for relief of minor articular pain and to increase the amount of urine to achieve flushing of the urinary tract as an adjuvant in minor urinary complaints. Other traditional uses as herbal medicine include as nutritive tonic and to help relieve seasonal allergy symptoms.
