Nintedanib esylate is indicated for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) (scarring of the lungs of unknown cause). Nintedanib esylate inhibits multiple receptor tyrosine kinase and receptor non-tyrosine kinases. Some of these are implicated in the process of IPF and nintedanib may work by blocking the enzymes involved in fibrosis.
