Oxfendazole is a sulfoxide metabolite of fenbendazole. This benzimidazole antihelminthic protects livestock from roundworm, strongyles, and pinworm. Oxfendazole, fenbendazole and febantel are three metabolically related anthelmintics. Fenbendazole and oxfendazole are metabolically interconvertible, and febendazole is a prodrug of them both. Oxfendazole and fenbendazole both undergo further metabolic oxidation and carbamate hydrolysis.
