It is used as an ingredient in sunscreen and other cosmetics. Besides cosmetic products and personal care products, oxybenzone is also used in coating products, fillers, putties, plasters, modelling clay, and finger paints. Other releases to the environment of this substance are likely to occur from indoor use (machine wash liquids/detergents, automotive care products, paints and coatings or adhesives, fragrances and air fresheners) and outdoor use as a processing aid. Oxybenzone occurs naturally in some flowering plants. The benzophenone class of compounds are used as a food flavoring.
