Pantoprazole is indicated for gastroesophageal reflux treatment and prevention, high stomach acid secretion, and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. Pantoprazole sodium is a proton pump inhibitor that covalently binds to the (H+, K+)- ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell. This action suppresses the final step in gastric acid production and leads to inhibition of both basal and stimulated acid secretion.
