Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to calcium pantothenate (CAS RN 13 7-08-6) and sodium pantothenate (CAS RN 86 7-81-2). CPantothenic acid, also called pantothenate or vitamin B5, is a water-soluble vitamin. For many animals, pantothenic acid is an essential nutrient, as it is required to synthesize coenzyme-A (CoA) as well as to synthesize and metabolize proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Pantothenic acid is the amide between pantoic acid and β-alanine and is commonly found as its alcohol analog, the provitamin panthenol, and as calcium pantothenate. Small quantities of pantothenic acid are found in nearly every food, with high amounts in wholegrain cereals, legumes, eggs, meat, royal jelly, avocado, and yogurt. Pantothenic acid is an ingredient in some hair and skin care products. Only the dextrorotatory (D) isomer of pantothenic acid possesses biological activity, while the levorotatory (L) form may antagonize the effects of the dextrorotatory isomer.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
