Para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) (also known as 4-aminobenozic acid and aminobenzoic acid) is a substance that occurs naturally in foods including, but not limited to brewer’s yeast, liver, molasses, spinach and whole grains, in microorganisms, and human tissues/fluids. It is used to synthesize folate, in the treatment of Peyronie’s disease and rickettsial diseases, as a sunscreen, and is a component in some over the counter vitamin B complex supplements. The use in vitamin B complex supplements is not approved by the FDA.
