Phenylethyl alcohol (PEA), also known as phenethyl alcohol or benzeneethanol, is an aromatic alcohol and a member of the benzenes found in many natural essential oils. Phenylethyl alcohol (PEA) is used as a flavoring agent in foods and beverages, as a fragrance in perfumes, cosmetics, detergents, synthetic rose oils, and soaps, and as an antibacterial agent and preservative. It is also used as an antimicrobial, antiseptic, and disinfectant agent.
