This monograph is NOT applicable to white phosphorus (CAS RN 7723-14-0, 12185- 10-3), which is a more reactive allotropic form of phosphorus. Red phosphorus is not toxicologically or chemically equivalent to white or black phosphorus. Phosphorus is a nonmetal chemical element; it has symbol P and atomic number 15. With 31P as its only stable isotope, phosphorus is the 11th most abundant element in the Earth’s crust. Phosphorus does not occur in nature as a free element because of its high reactivity but is found in the form of phosphate minerals such as chlorapatite, fluorapatite, vivianite, wavellite, and phosphorite. It can also be prepared artificially as its common allotropes, one of them being red phosphorus. Phosphorus is registered as a vertebrate control agent; it is used for the control of rodents where they have become a pest problem.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.

Affygility Solutions’ OEL Fastrac service is an user-friendly system that enables us to make confident decisions and focus on moving the compound safely through our facility. We can quickly access the database to determine if a new drug is within the OEL Fastrac library, and if so, immediately download a detailed OEL banding report. The OEL Fastrac system has been a helpful tool in our overall EH&S program.
