Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to Piperaquine phosphate (CAS RN 85547-56-4), Piperaquine tetraphosphate (CAS RN 911061-10-4), and Piperaquine tetraphosphate hydrate (CAS RN 915967-82-7). Piperaquine is a 4-piperazinoquinoline derivative antimalarial agent. Its use declined as the first resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum appeared and artemisinin derivatives became available. It has come back into use in combination with artemisinin derivative dihydroartemisinin as part of the combination product Eurartesim , which was first authorized for market by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in 2011. The rationale for such artemisinin combination therapies was to provide an inexpensive, short-course treatment regimen with a high cure rate and good tolerability that would reduce transmission and protect against the development of parasite resistance, an approach that has now been endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
