Piroxicam mixture with beta-cyclodextrin (also known as piroxicam beta-cyclodextrin and beta-cyclodextrin-piroxicam) is an inclusion complex of piroxicam and beta-cyclodextrin. It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indicated for symptomatic relief of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis. The anti-inflammatory effect of piroxicam results from the reversible inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX), causing the peripheral inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. The prostaglandins are produced by an enzyme called COX-1. Piroxicam blocks the COX-1 enzyme, resulting into the disruption of production of prostaglandins. Piroxicam also inhibits the migration of leukocytes into sites of inflammation and prevents the formation of thromboxane A2, an aggregating agent, by the platelets.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), and to obtain the following information:
