Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to piroxicam betadex (CAS RN 96684-40-1). The monograph contains both the OEL and ADE. Piroxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indicated for treatment of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Piroxicam, an oxicam derivative, and piroxicam betadex are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and like that of other NSAIDs, the mechanism of action is not completely understood, but is thought to inhibit prostaglandin synthetase. The antiinflammatory effect of piroxicam may be a result of the inhibition the COX-1 enzyme, leading to the disruption of the production of prostaglandins. Piroxicam also inhibits the migration of leukocytes into sites of inflammation and prevents the formation of thromboxane A2, an aggregating agent, by the platelets.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
