Povidone iodine is a broad-spectrum microbicide indicated for preoperative skin preparation of the operative site, disinfection of wounds, skin, and the oropharyngeal mucosa and as anti-infective prophylaxis during hospital and office procedures. Povidone iodine is also indicated for the preparation of the periocular region and irrigation of the ocular surface. It is used for the local treatment of candidate vaginitis, trichomonas vaginitis, nonspecific and mixed infection, preoperative treatment in obstetrics and gynecology, and local cleaning of the vaginal region.
