Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to procyclidine hydrochloride (CAS RN 1508-76-5). Procyclidine is indicated for use in the symptomatic treatment of all forms of Parkinson's Disease and for the control of extrapyramidal reactions induced by antipsychotic agents. The mechanism of action of procyclidine is unknown but is thought that procyclidine acts by blocking central cholinergic receptors, and thus balancing cholinergic and dopaminergic activity in the basal ganglia. Many of its effects are due to its pharmacologic similarities with atropine. Procyclidine exerts an antispasmodic effect on smooth muscle and may produce mydriasis and reduction in salivation.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
