Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to the base propranolol hydrochloride (CAS RN 525-66-6). Propranolol is a sympatholytic non-selective beta blocker. Sympatholytics are used to treat hypertension, anxiety and panic. It was the first successful beta blocker developed. Propranolol inhibits response to adrenergic stimuli by competitively blocking betaadrenergic receptors within the heart muscle, bronchial, and vascular smooth muscle. The mechanism of the antihypertensive effect of propranolol has not been established. Three factors may contribute to the action including decreased cardiac output, inhibition of renin release by the kidneys, and decreased cranial nerve signals for vasoconstriction.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
