Prothipendyl, as prothipendyl hydrochloride, is a neuroleptic belonging to the chemical class of phenothiazines, under the dimethylaminopropyl chain group. In addition to the neuroleptic effects, prothipendyl has various other properties. It is an antiallergic, an antihistamine, a local anesthetic, a spasmolytic, a hypotensive, and a hypothermic. Prothipendyl is indicated in adults and children older than 6 years old for the management of psychotic episodes and states of psychomotor agitation.
