Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to Puromycin hydrochloride (CAS RN 58-58-2) and Puromycin monohydrochloride (CAS RN 3506-23-8). Puromycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic isolated from the bacterium Streptomyces alboniger. It is utilized as a selective agent in laboratory cell cultures. Puromycin is toxic to both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, resulting in significant cell death at appropriate doses. Puromycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic and antibacterial agent. It is active against grampositive microorganisms, less active against acid-fast bacilli, and weakly active against gramnegative microorganisms. It acts very quickly and can kill 99% of the cells within 2 days. It also exhibits antitumor activity in studies on brain tumor cells.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
