Pyriproxyfen is a broad-spectrum insecticide, primarily used on fruits. It is also an ingredient in many in-home pesticides and pet products. Pyriproxyfen is an ectoparasiticide, which mimics insect juvenile growth hormone, inhibiting development during metamorphosis and larval development. It also concentrates in female flea ovaries, causing non-viable eggs to be produced. It is often combined with an adulticide, which causes all stages of the parasite to be killed, decreasing likelihood of re-infestation.
