Quinidine is a class 1A antiarrhythmic. It also has antimuscarinic and alpha-adrenoceptor blocking properties. Quinidine is used in the management of supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, including cardioversion and maintenance of sinus rhythm in atrial fibrillation, but other drugs or methods are usually preferred. Quinidine is an isomer of quinine and may be used as an alternative to quinine in the treatment of malaria when quinine is not immediately available.
