Red iron oxide (also known as anhydrous ferric oxide, anhydrous iron (III) oxide, di-irontrioxide, iron oxide red, red ferric oxide, hematite, Pigment Red 101, Color Index (CI) 77491, CI Pigment Red101 and 102, INS No 172) is an inorganic compound obtained from iron(II) sulfate by the Penniman-Zoph method. It is one of the three main oxides of iron, the other two being iron(II) oxide (FeO) the rarer form, and black iron oxide.
