Rifapentine is an anti-bacterial agent indicated for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. Rifapentine is a cyclopentyl derivative of rifampicin and has a similar microbiological activity profile. Rifapentine exhibits bacteriostatic and bactericidal activities against intracellular bacteria growing in human monocyte-derived macrophages. It inhibits DNAdependent RNA polymerase in susceptible strains of M. tuberculosis, leading to a suppression of RNA synthesis and cell death.
