Salcaprozate sodium (SNAC) may be used as a delivery agent to promote the oral absorption of certain macromolecules with poor bioavailability such as insulin, vitamin B12, and heparin. Salcaprozate sodium (SNAC) was initially discovered as part of a screening process aimed at identifying carrier-based permeation enhancers (PEs) with the capability to facilitate the intestinal transit of poorly permeable substances. Salcaprozate sodium (SNAC) has demonstrated its potential as a delivery agent in various formats, including taste-masked liquids, tablets, and soft gelatin capsules.
