Sibutramine is a serotonin and norepinephrine transporter inhibitor that was indicated for the treatment of obesity. Sibutramine's mechanism of action, inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine, is similar to the mechanism of action of some antidepressants. Its primary mechanism of action is increased satiety, although some evidence also suggests increased energy expenditure could play a role in sibutramine-induced weight loss.
