Silver sulfadiazine is a sulfa derivative topical antibacterial indicated as an adjunct for the prevention and treatment of wound sepsis in patients with second-degree and third-degree burns. Silver sulfadiazine cream is also indicated for the treatment of leg ulcers, skin grafts, incisions and other clean lesions, abrasions, and minor cuts and wounds. To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of silver sulfadiazine and other antibacterial drugs, silver sulfadiazine should be used only to treat infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria.
