Please note, this monograph also includes the pediatric ADE. Simethicone is primarily used as a pharmaceutical to reduce gas in the gastrointestinal tract (1, 2 ,3). It is also used in breast implants, injected into tissues for cosmetic purposes, used in cosmetics, and used as a diagnostic ultrasound-imaging agent. Note - The acceptable daily exposure (ADE) established for simethicone in this monograph is not applicable for the intravenous (IV) route. Simethicone may cause pulmonary microvascular occlusion and simulate a clinical acute respiratory distress syndrome when administered by the IV route.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
