Somatropin is synthetic human growth hormone (HGH) synthesized in a strain of Escherichia coli. It has the normal structure of the major component of natural human pituitary growth hormone. Somatropin consists of a single polypeptide chain of 191 amino acids with disulfide linkages between positions 53 and 165 and between 182 and 189. Somatropin has a molecular weight of 22 kDa.
