Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to sparfloxacin lactate (CAS RN 1362654-16-7). Sparfloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic indicated for bacterial infections. It is used for the treatment of adults with the following infections caused by susceptible strains of microorganisms; community-acquired pneumonia (caused by Chlamydia pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, or Streptococcus pneumoniae) and acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis (caused by Chlamydia pneumoniae, Enterobacter cloacae, Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Staphylococcus aureus, or Streptococcus pneumoniae). Sparfloxacin oral therapy is indicated to treat susceptible bacterial infections including bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia. This drug is no longer marketed in the United States.
