Spiramycin is a primarily bacteriostatic macrolide antimicrobial agent with activity against gram-positive cocci and rods, gram-negative cocci and also Legionellae, mycoplasmas, chlamydia, some types of spirochetes, Toxoplasma gondii and Cryptosporidium. Spiramycin is a 16-membered ring macrolide discovered in a product of Streptomyces ambofaciens. Orally administered spiramycin is indicated for the treatment of infections of the respiratory tract, buccal cavity, skin and soft tissues due to susceptible organisms, and as an alternate choice of treatment for gonorrhea in patients allergic to the penicillins. Before treatment of gonorrhea, the possibility of concomitant infection due to T. pallidum should be excluded. Intravenous (IV) spiramycin is indicated for the treatment of toxoplasmosis, Cryptosporidiosis, protozoal infections, and susceptible infections.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
