Sulfadiazine is a short-acting sulfonamide used in combination with pyrimethamine to treat toxoplasmosis in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV) and in newborns with congenital infections. It has been used in chancroid, trachoma, inclusion conjunctivitis, nocardiosis, urinary tract infections, toxoplasmosis, malaria, prophylaxis of meningococcal meningitis, acute otitis and prophylaxis against rheumatic fever.
