Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to sulfanilamide sodium (CAS RN 10103-15-8), Sulfanilamide hydrochloride (CAS RN 6101-31-1), Sulfanilamide monohydrate (CAS RN Not Available), Sulfanilamide sodium mesylate (CAS RN 35915-69-6), and Sulfanilamide camphorsulfonate (CAS RN 60154-11-2). Sulfanilamide is indicated for use in the treatment of vulvovaginitis caused by Candida albicans. Sulfanilamide acts as a competitive inhibitor of bacterial enzyme dihydropteroate synthase, an enzyme that normally uses para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) for synthesizing necessary folic acid. This inhibits the reaction that is normally necessary in these organisms for the synthesis of folic acid, preventing bacterial replication.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
