Teriflunomide is indicated to treat relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis. Teriflunomide, the primary active metabolite of leflunomide, inhibits dihydroorotate dehydrogenase, which is a mitochondrial enzyme involved in de novo pyrimidine synthesis. Although the exact mechanism of action in multiple sclerosis is unknown, it may involve a reduction in activated lymphocytes in the central nervous system.
