Tezacaftor, in combination with ivacaftor, is indicated for the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF) in people aged 12 years or older who have two copies of the F508del mutation or at least one mutation in the CF transmembrane conductance regulatory (CFTR) gene that is responsive to this treatment based on clinical evidence. Tezacaftor facilitates the cellular processing and trafficking of normal select mutant forms of CFTR (including F508del-CFTR) to increase the amount of mature CFTR protein delivered to the cell surface, ultimately restoring CFTR gene function.
