Thiethylperazine is a piperazine phenothiazine derivative and a dopamine antagonist used as an antiemetic (1). Thiethylperazine is an atypical antipsychotic agent. Thiethylperazine is particularly useful in treating the nausea and vomiting associated with anesthesia, mildly emetic cancer chemotherapy agents, radiation therapy, and toxins. Thiethylperazine has been used in the management (but not the prevention) of vertigo or motion sickness. Thiethylperazine is used to treat both negative and positive symptoms of schizophrenia, acute mania with bipolar disorder, agitation, and psychotic symptoms in dementia. The treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder and severe behavioral disorders in autism is under investigation.
