Tilorone, administered as its dihydrochloride salt, is an orally available small molecule interferon inducer and a selective alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (alpha7 nAChR) agonist that is used as an antiviral agent. Tilorone is indicated for the treatment of influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections, and for the treatment of herpetic infections. Tilorone dihydrochloride is also indicated for the treatment of viral hepatitis A, B, C, and is used as part of the complex therapy of viral encephalitis, and respiratory and urogenital chlamydia. Tilorone dihydrochloride is included in the list of essential medicines of the Russian Federation.
