Torsemide, also known as torasemide, is a potent loop diuretic used for the treatment of hypertension and edema in patients with congestive heart failure, renal failure, or liver disease. It is a N-sulfonylurea, an aminopyridine and a secondary amino compound. It is functionally related to a 4-aminopyridine. Torsemide was first approved for clinical use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1993. Torsemide can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
