Triacetin (also known as glyceryl triacetate) is reported to function as a cosmetic biocide, plasticizer, and solvent in cosmetic formulations. It is a commonly-used carrier for flavors and fragrances. Concentration of use data submitted by the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association (CTFA) indicated that triacetin was used in a number of product types at concentrations of 0.8 – 4%.
