Valproate, which is a generic name applied to valproic acid and its salts and esters, is indicated for the treatment and management of seizure disorders, mania, and prophylactic treatment of migraine headaches. Valproate sodium injection is indicated as an intravenous (IV) alternative in patients for whom oral administration of valproate products is temporarily not feasible in the treatment of seizure disorders.
