Vasopressin, also known as argipressin, is used to treat the following conditions - elevated blood pressure in adults in shock; to increase water retention in patients with diabetes; and to control bleeding of the esophagus. Vasopressin causes constriction of blood vessels and causes the kidney to increase the reabsorption of water.
