Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to xylazine hydrochloride(CAS RN 23076-35-9). Xylazine hydrochloride is a sedative, analgesic, and muscle relaxant for use in dogs, cats, horses, cattle, and Cervidae during diagnostic, orthopedic, dental, and surgical procedures. Xylazine is also used as an emetic in cats. The sedative and analgesic activity of xylazine hydrochloride is due to its central nervous system depression, and its muscle relaxant effects is related to the inhibition of intraneural transmission of impulses in the central nervous system. Xylazine belongs to a class of organic aromatic compounds known as m-xylenes, that contain a m-xylene moiety, which is a monocyclic benzene with two methyl groups at the 1- and 3-postions. Xylazine is an analogue of clonidine, an antihypertensive in humans, and an agonist of the α2 class of adrenergic receptor.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
