Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to ziprasidone base (CAS RN 122883-93-6), ziprasidone hydrochloride (CAS RN 185021-64-1), and ziprasidone mesylate trihydrate (CAS RN 199191-69-0). Ziprasidone is an antipsychotic drug used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It can effectively reduce the rate and time of relapses in schizophrenia and can be used to treat manic episodes in bipolar disorder and as adjunctive therapy to lithium or valproate for maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder. Although ziprasidone is classified as an atypical antipsychotic, it appears to have a lower incidence of metabolic adverse effects compared to other medications in the same class. The injectable formulation (ziprasidone mesylate) is approved only for intramuscular (IM) administration in treatment of acute agitation in schizophrenia.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
