Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to zolmitriptan hydrochloride (CAS RN Not Available). Zolmitriptan is a serotonin (5-HT)1B/1D receptor agonist (triptan) indicated for the acute treatment of migraine, with or without disturbances in vision, smell and/or hearing, in adults. Migraines are likely due to local vasodilatation in the brain case and/or to the release of sensory neuropeptides (vasoactive intestinal peptide, substance P and calcitonin generelated peptide) through nerve endings in the trigeminal nerve system. The therapeutic activity of zolmitriptan for the treatment of migraine headache is thought to be due to the agonist effects at the 5-HT1B/1D receptors on blood vessels in the brain and sensory nerves of the trigeminal system which result in vessel constriction and inhibition of proinflammatory neuropeptide release.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
