Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to zolpidem tartrate (CAS RN 99294-93-6). Zolpidem is a benzodiazepine receptor agonist indicated for the treatment of insomnia. Zolpidem is a hypnotic agent unrelated to benzodiazepines, barbiturates, or other drugs with hypnotic effects. Zolpidem binds the benzodiazepine (BZ) receptor subunit of the GABA-A receptor complex, which is hypothesized to be responsible for sedative, anticonvulsant, anxiolytic, and myorelaxant properties. The preferential binding affinity of zolpidem to the BZ1 receptor may explain the relative absence of muscle relaxant and anticonvulsant effects as well as the preservation of deep sleep (stages 3 and 4) of zolpidem at hypnotic doses.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
